Wisdom from our founders

the germ of dissolution of our federal government . . .
“The germ of dissolution of our federal government is in the constitution of the federal judiciary; an irresponsible body, (for impeachment is scarcely a scare-crow), working like gravity by night and by day, gaining a little today and a little tomorrow, and advancing its noiseless step like a thief, over the field of jurisdiction, until all shall be usurped from the States, and the government of all be consolidated into one.” –Thomas Jefferson–Thomas Jefferson, letter to Charles Hammond, August 18, 1821

I really do not think I need to add anything to this, except that we are witnessing this very thing today. Semper Fi.

  1. Thanks for providing the link.....it's perhaps a little discouraging to realize that Thomas Jefferson was actually able to "read the tea leaves" and see the potential vulnerabilities even in such a magnificent system of government.

The power of the judiciary reminds me of the nature of water in its action within a mountain: seeping here, running there, pooling again here...but always impacting the mountain. The end result might be a limestone cave, a destructive landslide, a beautiful waterfall or death by steam burns for an unwary visitor at Yellowstone. All the while, the water was just "being water".

Our judiciary is under the radar and out of mind for most of our citizens. It's hard to stop its action, but at the very least, we can sure hold our flashlights on it.

  2. If we continue to allow the Courts to legislate from the bench as they have been, the country is in for a vary rude awakening. if we are not all comatose by then. Semper Fi.
